Choose Well

Doctors in Surrey Heath are helping residents learn about the different health options available to them, so they can choose well this winter.

Cold winter weather creates higher demand on health services, especially the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) at Frimley Park Hospital.

Surrey Heath Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has launched a new ‘Choose Well’ campaign to help patients learn about the local alternatives available to them.

By choosing other services and self-caring, where appropriate, patients can help reduce pressure on their local NHS.

Advice includes self-care for sore-throats, coughs and minor infections, as well as calling NHS111 when you need help fast but don’t know who to call.

Dr Andy Brooks, Chief Officer of NHS Surrey Heath CCG, said: “The CCG is asking people to choose well so that we can maintain high quality healthcare over the winter months. We are actively encouraging people to choose the service most appropriate to them if they are ill.”

Alternatives for less serious health conditions:

Self Care is the right option for problems such as hangovers, minor coughs, colds and mild stomach upsets. Keeping well stocked medicine cabinet kit at home will help relieve minor ailments. For advice on what to keep in your medicine cabinet visit the NHS Website

Pharmacies do more than just dispense prescriptions – pharmacists can provide advice on a range of ailments, potentially saving people a visit to their GP. Visit the NHS Website to find out more about the services provided by pharmacies

GPs and their practice teams provide medical advice on a wide range of symptoms and illnesses, and can refer patients to specialist services.
